The development of modern medical and laboratory equipment places high demands on enclosure technology. In addition to an attractive design, key criteria include generous internal space, ergonomic operation, service-friendly assembly concepts and a high degree of integration for electronic and mechatronic assemblies.
The new COMMUNITEC is a modern enclosure system designed for demanding applications in stationary and mobile medical, laboratory and analytical technology. This large-volume tabletop enclosure has been developed for complex electronic systems and is particularly suitable for applications requiring the secure integration of large-format displays, high-performance embedded systems and extensive sensor technology.

Example of use: A patient monitor for the continuous monitoring of vital signs in clinical settings.
Optimised for medical workflows
The control and display surface, which is tilted by 12°, enables ergonomic interaction with touchscreens, membrane keyboards or capacitive controls. At the same time, the tilt angle improves the readability of diagnostic readings, laboratory parameters and process information from various working positions. Displays measuring 11.5" – 14" (29 cm – 35 cm diagonally) can be securely integrated into the recessed front panel. The protected mounting position reduces the risk of mechanical damage and supports use in demanding clinical and laboratory environments.
Another design feature is the integrated recessed handle. This facilitates the transport of larger devices between treatment rooms, laboratory workstations or clinical areas within medical facilities.

The housing design consists of four individual parts, offering plenty of space for large components; shown here is an example of a circuit board layout from the medical technology sector
High integration capacity for complex medical technology
Modern diagnostic and laboratory equipment often integrates multiple functional areas within a single compact system. In addition to high-performance electronics, these devices must accommodate power supplies, cooling systems, sensors, communication modules and a wide range of interfaces. Numerous mounting points in the base housing, front panel and base plate enable the flexible integration of diverse assemblies and components.
The large internal volume of COMMUNITEC provides sufficient space for:
· Embedded PCs and industrial computing platforms
· Large-format printed circuit boards and backplanes
· Signal conditioning and measurement amplifiers
· Optical measurement systems
· Sensor and actuator modules
· Power supplies and voltage sources
· Communication interfaces such as Ethernet, USB or serial systems
· Fan, cooling or filter units

The housing design, which has no visible screw connections, simplifies cleaning and disinfection and is suitable for use in medical and laboratory applications.
Service-friendly design for easy development and maintenance
The modular enclosure design comprises a base enclosure, a front panel, a base plate and the rear recessed handle cover. This significantly simplifies assembly, commissioning and servicing.
The base plate can be fully assembled outside the enclosure. The pre-assembled unit is then inserted into the enclosure and secured with screws. Maintenance work can be carried out both via the front and via the recessed handle opening, allowing even complex sub-assemblies to be replaced or expanded quickly.
The assembly is secured using corrosion-resistant Torx stainless steel screws on the rear or inner side. There are no visible screws on the control panel, which not only improves the appearance but also makes cleaning easier.
Materials for professional use
All housing components are made from ASA+PC-FR, a UV-resistant and flame-retardant plastic with high impact strength and good dimensional stability. The lightly textured surface is resistant to signs of wear and tear and is easy to clean – an important advantage for devices that are regularly disinfected or used in areas where hygiene is a priority.

The COMMUNITEC enclosure features a recessed connection area for the secure integration of communication and power supply connections.
Protected interface integration
The recessed connection area on the rear of the housing protects connectors and cables from mechanical stress whilst also allowing for neat cable routing. The flat surface beneath the sloping control/display panel is available for the integration of front-panel controls and connections, as well as for printing, such as logos or device specifications.

Application example: A therapy system for electrical nerve stimulation featuring intuitive user guidance and powerful device integration.
Conclusion
With its combination of large installation volume, ergonomic operation, service-friendly design and extensive customisation options, COMMUNITEC provides a future-proof enclosure platform for the development of modern medical devices as well as high-performance laboratory and analytical equipment.
