When fire safety is a priority, selecting housings made from UL 94 V-0 compliant material is recommended. The V-0 classification indicates that the plastic has good self-extinguishing properties, thereby minimising the risk of fire spreading.
However, it should be noted that the flammability rating always refers to the respective plastic and that the tests are carried out on defined test pieces under controlled laboratory conditions. In manufactured parts — such as housings and components — variations may occur due to differences in wall thickness, processing or machining.
Use of flame-retardant plastics with UL 94 V-0 classification at OKW
The OKW standard range includes numerous product series already made from flame-retardant plastics with UL 94 V-0 classification in various standard colours, depending on the housing type. Their use depends on the existing tool designs.
☝️Please note: External factors such as sunlight, extreme temperatures, rain, dirt, etc., pose challenges that may impact the reliability of the devices. For permanently installed devices, we recommend positioning units in a protected outdoor area.
PC+ABS (UL 94 V-0)
This plastic is suitable for use in enclosed spaces with moderately corrosive conditions and, to a limited extent, for outdoor use.
Properties
- Good resistance to high temperatures combined with high impact strength and cold impact strength
- Good overall resistance to chemicals
- UV light can have an adverse effect
OKW enclosures made of PC+ABS (UL 94 V-0)
ASA+PC (UL 94 V-0)
The material is well-suited for use in enclosures located within enclosed environments and in protected outdoor areas..
Properties
- Good resistance to high temperatures combined with high impact strength
- Good overall resistance to chemicals
- High weather resistance
